A Production Gear Extruder for Extruding Pharmaceutical Compounds
The Caleva Model 40 is a gear type extruder, designed to impart very little work to the pharmaceutical product as it is processed. This reduces problems caused by the material overheating or drying out.
The Extruder 40 is a gear type extruder which makes it different from the screen type Extruder 20 and Extruder 35. In gear extruders, extrusion is performed by two detachable, contra rotating gears. The wet mass is introduced into the void between two contra rotating gears which forces the product through the extrusion holes located at the root of each gear tooth. The extrudate exits from the center of each gear providing a dense, high quality extrudate.
The Extruder 40 is suitable for most low pressure wet extrusion processes used in solid dosage processing. Gear extruders generate minimum heat without working the product excessively, making the Extruder 40 ideally suited heat sensitive pharmaceutical products. Furthermore, gear extruders offer the advantage of being able to alter the density of the extrudate by using inserts with different depth die holes. This design flexibility allows gear extruders to be used on many different types of materials and allows you to optimize the extrudate density on any given material.
